Feasibility study on Bergkamen hydrogen cluster completed
Results do not permit economically viable implementation of the project at the present time
Bergkamen/Unna/Essen. In a six-month feasibility study, Bayer, E.ON, Iqony and Westenergie have investigated the possibility of establishing a hydrogen cluster with an ammonia cracker as the starting point. The results are now available.
The partners involved in the project comment on these results as follows:
The feasibility study has shown that the hydrogen requirements identified to date are not sufficient to make the project economically viable at the present time. This is particularly true in the light of the fact that a number of regulatory decisions are still pending, and these are expected to have a noticeable impact on both future pricing and the development of demand for hydrogen.
Nevertheless, the project partners will remain in contact, continue to monitor developments at the political and regulatory level closely, and continuously evaluate the framework conditions for potential hydrogen supply at the site.
