Intersolar 2024: The future as an Independent Power Producer
Iqony Sens showcases its expanded business area for the first time at the world’s leading trade fair for the solar industry
Munich. From project developer to one of Europe’s leading producers of energy from renewables: At Intersolar, the world’s leading trade fair for the solar industry in Munich, the newly established Renewables business unit of Iqony, the green growth division of the Essen-based STEAG Group, was unveiled for the first time. Effective June 1, the solar and wind businesses were merged to form Iqony Sustainable Energy Solutions (Iqony Sens).
“Combining our many years of experience and strong positioning in the solar industry with Iqony’s wind expertise enables us to respond even more efficiently and effectively to the challenges of the market,” says André Kremer, Managing Director of Iqony Sens and previously responsible for the solar business at Iqony. Joël Wagner, also Managing Director of Iqony Sens and previously responsible for the wind business, adds: “The aim of the new business unit is to make greater use of synergies across the entire wind and PV value chain and increasingly position ourselves on the market as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) with access to all technologies.
Keen interest in reorganization
The repositioning met with keen interest from customers, partners and service providers at Intersolar. “As an integrated system operator and energy producer, we are going to develop and market even more projects for our own portfolio in future,” André Kremer emphasized. In addition to project development, the generation of energy from renewables and the supply of electricity to households and businesses will also be a focus.
The Iqony Sens stand in Hall A4 was extremely well attended on both days of the trade fair. In numerous expert sessions, the Iqony Sens team was available to visitors for professional dialogs, current industry insights and technical questions. One of the main topics was the future of the solar industry and, in particular, the opportunities and challenges in the development of new business models.
Renewables join forces
Intersolar takes place annually at the Munich trade fair center as part of The smarter E Europe, Europe’s largest trade fair alliance for the energy industry. The focus is on renewable energies, decentralization and digitalization of the energy industry as well as cross-industry solutions from the electricity, heating and transport sectors for an intelligent and sustainable energy supply.
“It became clear at the trade fair that the industry is increasingly moving closer together and linking various technologies. In addition to the issues specific to solar energy, wind-related aspects also played a major role – from asset management and system optimization to services relating to the planning and marketing of green wind power,” Joël Wagner emphasizes. This increasing convergence of renewables, including battery storage systems, offers great potential and is an excellent basis for the new Iqony Sens.
