SENS finalises 25 megawatt solar park on Swabian Alb in Germany
New solar park in Küpfendorf with 45,000 PV modules generates around 28,000 megawatt hours of green energy per year
Würzburg/Essen. In the Swabian Alps, SENS (Iqony Solar Energy Solutions), a subsidiary of Iqony GmbH, is taking another step towards its goal of creating a future with 100 % Good Energy. In the area of Küpfendorf (municipality Steinheim am Albuch, Heidenheim district), the Germany-based solar service provider has completed a new PV park with an output of 25 megawatts (MWp) for its customer Vento Ludens, a project developer in the renewable energy sector.
The park generates a total of around 28,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year. This corresponds to an annual CO2 reduction of almost 13,000 metric tonnes - an amount that is greater than the annual storage capacity of 1,000 hectares of forest.
A rocky road to more solar energy
A total of 45,000 solar modules have been installed since the start of the project in March 2023. The particularly firm and rocky ground conditions posed a special challenge for this project. In order for SENS to be able to securely mount the PV modules, special holes had to be drilled for the installation and anchoring of the substructure.
"Without the innovative and solution-orientated thinking of the experienced team on site, we would not have been able to complete the project in just under a year. The ground condition was not the only obstacle" explains Christian Müller, the project manager for the Küpfendorf solar park at SENS. The connection to the power grid was also complex: "A cable route of around nine kilometres in length will conduct the solar power to where it is needed."
Common goal: renewable energy
SENS was responsible for the EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) services, while the customer Vento Ludens took over the development of the ground-mounted system.
The project is another example of how much can be achieved for the energy transition when customer and service provider pursue the same mission: Reducing CO2 emissions and creating a future with 100 % Good Energy - a cause that not only SENS is committed to but also Vento Ludens, whose aim is to become independent of fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
The successful cooperation continues
Following the successful commissioning of the solar park in Küpfendorf, SENS is already building another 24.5 MWp PV project for Vento Ludens.
